The Southern California Half Marathon & 5K evolved from the success that Woodbridge High School enjoyed in the renowned Woodbridge High School Cross Country Classic.  The Half Marathon & 5K are hosted to benefit Woodbridge High School athletics, the programs provided by Families Forward, an organization dedicated to helping families facing housing hardship and in need to re-establish themselves in our community, as well as the other Irvine schools whose runners participate in the race.

The Half Marathon has grown substantially over the last sixteen years.  There were about 950 runners in the first year of the Half Marathon.  Last year over 4,500 runners participated in what has become a premier running event in Southern California.

The race has earned the honor of being an official warm-up race for the L.A. Marathon, the O.C. Marathon and has developed a partnership with Students Run LA to give "at risk" students from Southern California the opportunity to train and complete the L.A. Marathon.

The race has enjoyed the continuous support of various parts of the Irvine Community: The City of Irvine, The Irvine Company, Einstein’s Bagels, Claim Jumpers, Panera Bread Restaurant, the Irvine Ranch Water District, Hansen's Drink, Paradise Bottled Water, American Senior Living and Tustin Lexus to name a few.
