Scott qualifies for California State Track Championships
Sophomore Warrior Gabrielle Scott qualified for the California State Track and Field Championships next week by finishing with a time of 55.02 in the 400 meter dash under cool, cloudy skies Friday evening at the CIF Southern Section Masters Qualifying Meet at Cerritos College. Watch the video of her race.
To qualify for the state meet, Southern Section competitors must finish in the top five of their respective races or equal/break a meet at-large qualifying standard. For the 400 meters, Gabrielle qualified by finishing fifth in her race and also by breaking the at-large mark of 56.24. Given the competitiveness of the 400 meters at the state and Southern California level, all nine runners in Scott's race qualified for the state meet. Check out the Masters results at DyeStatCal.com.
Next week, Gabrielle will travel to Clovis (Fresno) to compete in the State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High School. She must first run in a preliminary race on Friday night, The first heat is scheduled to run at 6:33pm.
The nine best times in the Prelims qualify to run in the Finals on Saturday night. The finals of the girls 400 meter dash is scheduled for 7:11pm. Read the State Championships handbook for more information.
