Congratulations to all of the athletes on their performances at the League Finals.  What a great finish to our season.  As coaches, we were hoping that our training plans would produce our best results of the season at this meet.  The performances were impressive.  We competed with tenacity and enthusiasm and confidence and we came away with some special prizes.

We had numerous league championship performances:  Christine Babcock in the 800, 1600, 3200; Kyle Wolff in the 400; Becky Crouse in the discus; the Girls Varsity 4x400 relay; Derrick Fleming in the Boys Frosh/Soph 800; Brooke ten Bosch in the Girls JV 1600; the Boys JV 4x100 relay; Shylo Lontayao in the 400; the Boys Frosh/Soph 4x400 relay; Michael Callahan in the Frosh/Soph high jump; and, Colin Faulkner in the Boys Frosh/Soph pole vault.

THIS WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1)  CIF Prelims on Saturday at Moorpark High School (4500 N Tierra Rejada Road in Moorpark) starting at 11:00am for field events and 12:00 noon for running events.  The bus will leave at 8:00am from Woodbridge (WHS to 405 North to 101 North towards Ventura to CA-23 North towards Fillmore and exit on Tierra Rejada Road and go left).  It should take about 2 hours with all the Saturday traffic.

2)  We have many solid CIF spots at this meet.  Our girls’ team can finish in the top three at the CIF Championships.  We should be able to advance many of our entries to the CIF Finals.  We will need to approach this meet with a lot of emotion in order to advance.  My experience is that a lot of prospective CIF scorers do not make it to the finals because they have a let down from the league meet.  We cannot afford to do that.  The remaining meets demand total preparation (high enthusiasm, high confidence, and a tenacious competitive attitude).  We will intimidate and will not be intimidated!

3)  Off-Season training for the rest of the athletes.  Each of you will be expected to be dressed out each day and be at practice by 2:15pm (earlier than usual) and will be dismissed to go home at 3:30pm.  During this time, you will be expected to carry out a workout each day, lift weights three day a week, and work on your individual specialty events (HJ, PV, LJ, TJ, throws, hurdles, distance, and sprints).

4)  Be sure that you check in for attendance at the end of each day.  We will not go looking for you.  If you miss the stretching, drills, sprints, etc. it will count as one of your absences.  EIGHT non-participating days (excused or otherwise) during this period will earn you an "F" for the class for the 4th quarter.

5)  Uniforms must be turned in during this week in order to not lose credit with an "F" in the class.  Avoid hard feelings by following through on your responsibilities.  I cannot begin to tell you about past athletes that had to take IVC PE in order to graduate because they either did not dress out each day during the 4th quarter or did not take care of the other responsibilities.

6)  Our banquet will be on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 5:00pm at WHS (Barbeque and awards).  If you or your family have taken interesting pictures during the season, can you please bring them to me or Coach Antrim for our slide show as soon as possible?  You will get them back.

7)  Cross Country next fall:  We are going to have a very exciting cross country season next year.  We are graduating a number of our top performers from last year’s team.  In order to for us to continue the level of excellence that our cross country teams have enjoyed in the past, a number of our talented young athletes will need to step up and fill the shoes of our graduating athletes.  The endurance, strength, conditioning, and preparation we will need for next year’s cross country and track seasons will take place over the summer and this last month of the year.  Track and cross country athletes need to be part of this preparation.  We will expect our track athletes to sign up for cross country for the coming school year in order to be in 6th period and be able to get in shape and to also work on our track events.  We can pole vault, high jump, etc. year round from now on.

8)  If you are planning to participate in track for the 2009 season, sign up for the Warrior Summer Program to work on your field events or hurdles or sprints for a minimum of three days each week for 6 weeks.

9)  Physicals for the 2009 season (every sport) will be given the week of our banquet (Wednesday, June 11th between 6:00pm and 8:30pm).  Check the Summer Programs webpage for more information and be sure you plan to get your physical at this time for next year.

On behalf of the coaches on this year’s team, we want to thank you for your efforts, cooperation and the exciting performances.  Congratulations on your achievements.  We hope that your participation was enjoyable and worth the time you put in your training.
