Track Girls Return to Winning Form against the Oilers
WHS Boys 45, Huntington Beach 90; WHS Girls 88, Huntington Beach 48: Before a large, enthusiastic home crowd, the Warriors Girls Track team established early dominance over Huntington Beach to complete the regular dual meet Sea View League season. After having lost the week before, the girls finish with a League record of 4-1.
On the boys side, the Oilers showed their superiority in sprints and field events to outdistance the Warriors. The boys finish with a League record of 1-4.
Outstanding performances included:
- Gabrielle Scott with four wins (400m, 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m relays);
- Christine Babcock with two first place finishes (1600m, 800m);
- Sarah Toberty with an individual first (3200m), second (1600m), and third place (800m) finish as well as a 4x400m relay win;
- Kyle Wolff with wins in the 300m Hurdles and 4x100m relay and a second in the 400 meters;
- Erica Teen with wins in the 100m Hurdles and 4x100m relay and a second in the 300m Hurdles;
- Derrick Fleming with wins in the 800 meters and 4x400m relay;
- Hector De Los Santos with wins in the 300m Hurdles and 4x400m relay; and, the
- Pole Vault team with four personal records including Colin Faulkner (11' 6"), Nicole Belz (10' 0", second best all-time), Bridget Pujals (8' 6", tied for fifth best all-time), and Heather Pujals (6' 6").
The Warriors now enter into League Prelims next Tuesday (Apr 29th) at Irvine Stadium with field events beginning at 3:00pm and running events at 4:00pm. League Finals will follow for those who qualify in the Prelims on Friday, May 2nd (field events at 4:00pm; running events at 5:00pm).
