Girls Track finish four points short of OC Championship

Christine Babcock pulls away in winning the 1600 meters to break her own meet record.Led by seniors Christine Babcock and Kyle Wolff and freshman Gabrielle Scott, the Warriors girls track team gave a tremendous effort challenging for the Orange County Championship on Saturday at Mission Viejo High School.

  

The girls finished the invitational four points short of the Championship with 65 points; Dana Hills won the meet with 69 points. 

  

 

  

Babcock set meet records in the 1600 meters (breaking her own record from last year with a 4:45.96 time) and the 3200 meters (10:19.98).  Wolff took second in the 400 meters (57.01) and a surprising third in the 800 meters (2:16.07) in only the second competitive 800 race during her four-year career.  Scott won the 400 meters with a personal best 56.63 and finished fourth in the 200 meters (25.76).  Senior Becky Crouse also contributed to the individual scoring with a fifth place showing in the discus (118').

  

The girls relay teams also contributed to the scoring on Saturday.  The 4x100 meter relay team of Gia Trevisan, Scott, Erica Teen, and Wolff took seventh (50.42).  The 4x400 meter relay team of Scott, Sarah Toberty, Babcock, and Wolff won the event with their first sub-four-minute time of the year at 3:58.12.

The boys side was led by Hector De Los Santos who finished seventh in the 300 meter Intermediate Hurdles with a personal best 40.62.  Adam Garrett finished with a personal best of 51.36 in the 400 meters.  Philip Tramposh high jumped 6' and had a triple jump of 39' 3¼". 

  

Key individual performers in Frosh/Soph events included Derrick Fleming (PR of 4:38.64 in the 1600 meters and 2:06.34 in the 800 meters), Elie Abate (PR of 39' 3¾" in the Triple Jump), Michael Callahan (5' 4" in the High Jump and a PR 54.43 in the 400 meters), Brooke ten Bosch (PR of 5:26.77 in the 1600 meters), and Andy Jacobs (PR of 16.81 in the 110 meter High Hurdles).
