REVIEW:  Our girls enjoyed one of the finest meets in the history of Woodbridge H. S. as each entry to the CIF finals scored and scored at a level expected or higher than expected.  The girls scored 48 points to finish 2nd in the entire CIF Div II (J.W. North won the championship with 65 points while Rio Mesa was 3rd with 35 points).  This is the 7th CIF Runner-up finish in the last 11 years for the Warriors.  We are so proud of our tradition and successes our teams have enjoyed at this highest level of competition.  This wonderful group of girls can be proud of what they added to our legacy.  The results were as follows:

1)  The 4x100 relay team of Marjorie Strong to Cassie Stanislaw to Erica Teen to Kyle Wolff moved from the # 9 position to the 8th position to earn 1 point for the team and individual medals for the girls.

2)  Christine Babcock ran a tremendous last lap (65.7) to defeat Anna Sperry from Simi Valley H. S. with both girls breaking the old CIF record.

3)  Sarah Toberty ran a PR 5:04.73 to finish 7th in that same race and earn two additional points for the team.

4)  Kyle Wolff ran an excellent 400 with a new PR of 56.77 to earn the second place finish and 8 points for the team.

5)  Cassie Stanislaw ran 58.15 to finish 4th in the same 400 race and earn the team an additional 5 points.

6)  Christine Babcock was locked in an intense stride-per-stride duel with Sperry in the 3200 until about the 250 meter mark left in the race.  At that point, Christine shifted to over-drive and moved ahead of Sperry and kept on widening the gap between herself and Sperry.  Both girls broke the old CIF record by a lot as Christine won by 2 seconds with her furious kick.

7)  Cassie Stanislaw had a tremendous jump at 5’5” (which would have given her at least a 2nd place finish in the high jump) but nicked the bar with her heels and had to settle for a 5th giving the team another 4 points.

8)  Kyle Wolff opened up in the 4x400 relay with an excellent 56.6 leg giving Woodbridge the lead in the race.  J.W. North took the lead in the second leg but Sarah Toberty running a 58.6 came back on J. W. and with an excellent pass between her and Christine Babcock, Woodbridge regained the lead for a short period.  Back came J.W. North to take the lead only to have Christine put another great finish to catch J. W. and make the race about event at the end of the third leg.  Christine ran 57.7.  The pass between Christine and Cassie Stanislaw was not as sharp as it has been and JW jumped back into the lead.  Opening up about a 5 yd lead on us.  However Cassie started to make a move at the 250 meter mark and started to eat up the 5 yd lead that J.W. had.  With about 100 meters to go, the lead was down to 3 yds then 2 yds then 1 yd then 2 feet, then 1 foot and then just a few inches.  Cassie just ran out of real estate to catch JW at the finish.  Our team finished .1 seconds behind JW scoring 8 more pints for the team.  We ran under 3:50 for the first time in the school history and ran the fastest 4x400 relay time in O.C. since the 3:48.28 run by CDM in 1988 (the County record).

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:  Christine Babcock due to her winning two CIF individual titles and setting 2 CIF Div II records.  There have been so many outstanding distance runners in CIF and to break the records of those great athletes is a most notable accomplishment.
