Mar 26, 2007 -- League Opener at Foothill
REVIEW: Boys Varsity 90-46, Girls Varsity 110-26, Boys JV 96-23, Boys Frosh/Soph 70-66, and Girls JV 85-51. Our athletes performed well and took advantage of the weaknesses that Foothill had. Our distance athletes scored 20 of the 27 points possible on the boys’ side and 18 of the 27 on the girls’ side. Our girl throwers scored 16 of the 18 points with PR discus throws from Becky and Caitlin (as well as Ray Song) and throws of over 31 ft in the shot (PR again for Caitlin). Our hurdlers won all their races, our vertical jumpers scored well, and our sprinters held their own in the events that Foothill is known to be strong at.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Scott Muniz ran a PR 110 HH and scored 9 points for the team. Caitlin Schott threw two PRs in the meet and scored 8 points for the team.
WEEKLY SCHEDULE/ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1) El Toro Dual Meet on Thursday at WHS.
a) This is a very important meet for us in many ways. El Toro
is one of the favorite teams for the league title and they
have some very talented athletes in some of the events
on both the boys’ and the girls’ side. We have enjoyed
some very intense competition with El Toro in the past and
in different Invitationals. I expect them to be the
toughest team we have faced thus far this year. Competing
on our own track and in front of our school mates and
parents should prove to be a big help in quest to remain
undefeated in league competition. Each of our varsity
athletes would have to rise to the occasion and perform
at their highest level.
b) Hurdle Crews for the 100/110 hurdles and the 300 will be the
same as for the Laguna Hills meet. They are posted on the
HJ shed. We expect a better follow-through this time as
compared to that meet.
c) The hurdles crews must meet with Coach Ochsner on
Tuesday and Wednesday after and during practice to
find out the exact spot that the hurdles are to be
placed at. Be sure that all members of the crew stand
right by the hurdles as the hurdle races are being run.
Fix any problems that come up with the hurdles.
d) Block Crews will be the same as last meet. We did a very
poor job of having the blocks ready in the last meet. Coach
Banks will go over the assignment during the week.
e) If anyone from the crew is missing from their post during
the meet (when we call for the hurdles) that person will
be assigned detention again.
2) Trabuco Invitational on Friday & Saturday (WHS to Jeffrey and left. Jeffrey to Walnut and right. Take the 133 Toll Road going north to 241 towards Santa Margarita. Exit on the second Portola Road and go right. Stay on this road to Los Alisos. Turn right and park at the track area.)
a) This is two-day meet this year. Friday evening will be the
distance relays and open 1600s and 3200s.
b) Entries are now posted on the web and the HJ shed.
c) The bus will leave at 7:00am.
d) Great opportunity for some high-level competition in this meet.
I expect that our top-level athletes will hit some impressive marks.
Enjoy the week !!
