Ward superb in state championship loss

Woodbridge 64, Beverly Hills 77:  Senior Ashley Ward finished her stellar Woodbridge career with a great game but it wasn't enough as the Warriors (27-7) lost in the first round of the CIF State Championships against the Normans (21-12) Tuesday night in the WHS Gym.

Ward finished the game with 32 points and 9 rebounds.  Junior Sammy Doucette chipped in with 13 points.  Senior Sara McCutchan added 10.  Box score.

Warriors take on Mater Dei Saturday in CIF Finals

The Lady Warriors have made it to the CIF Finals in convincing fashion for the second year in a row.  After winning the CIF-SS Division 3AA title last year, Woodbridge (27-5) takes on the county's #1-ranked Mater Dei (27-1) for the CIF-SS Division 2A championship on Saturday at 1:00pm at The Pyramid on the campus of Cal State Long Beach.

Girls Basketball comes from behind to reach CIF Finals

Woodbridge 42, Diamond Ranch 34:  The Warriors (27-5) came from behind in the second half to beat the Panthers (26-3) for the second year in a row on Saturday night at Ganesha High School in Pomona.

  

Trailing most of the game, including with under three minutes left in the game, Woodbridge played tough defense and made critical steals and baskets in the closing minutes of the contest.  The semifinal win is the second consecutive year the Warriors have beaten Diamond Ranch to advance to the championship game.

Girls Basketball advances to CIF semifinals on Saturday

After leading by five points at the end of the first quarter, Woodbridge pulled away in the second quarter to lead 38-19 at halftime.

  

The Spartans worked hard but were not able to come back against the Warriors in the second half.

The Warriors were led by senior Ashley Ward who had 20 points and 6 rebounds.  Freshman Sarah Lipton continued her good late-season play and finished with 18 points including 4 three-point goals.  Junior Sammy Doucette added 12 points and senior Sara McCutchan finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds.  Box score.

  

Third-seed Woodbridge now plays the second-seed Diamond Ranch Panthers in a CIF-SS Division 2A semifinal game on Saturday at Ganesha High School in Pomona.  The game begins at 7:00pm.

  

Girls Basketball dominates Norwalk to advance in CIF

Woodbridge 65, Norwalk 14:  The Warriors (24-5) jumped out in the opening quarter with a pressing defense to win convincingly against the Lancers (12-15) in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2-A girls basketball playoffs.

  

The win included a 29-point halftime lead for Woodbridge, allowing only one point by Norwalk in the second half as the fourth quarter was played with a running clock.

Girls Basketball finish perfect in Sea View League

Woodbridge 62, Northwood 14:  The Warriors (10-0 League, 23-5 Overall) had already clinched the Sea View League title but still came out and dominated the Timberwolves (3-7, 13-15) Thursday night at the Northwood High School gym to complete league play undefeated.

Girls Basketball clinches Sea View League title

Eight Lady Warrior seniors pose with their parents for Senior Night at the WHS GymWoodbridge 80, Trabuco Hills 24:  The sixth-ranked Warriors (9-0 League, 22-5 Overall) clinched the Sea View League title by dominating the Mustangs (0-9, 3-21) at Trabuco Hills High School Tuesday night.

  

As has been the custom recently, Woodbridge played tough defense and shut out Trabuco Hills from scoring in the first quarter.  The Warriors scored 26 in the first and 25 in the second to have the game in hand by halftime, 51-8.

Warriors beat JSerra at Nike Extravaganza

Woodbridge 51, JSerra 38:  In Friday night's Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei High School, the Warriors (20-5) beat the Lions (9-16) with a great third quarter.

  

Senior Ashley Ward led Woodbridge in scoring with 22 points on 7 for 9 shooting from the field and making all 7 of her tries from the foul line.  Senior Erin Beadle added 10 points.  Game details.

  

Leading JSerra at halftime by nine points, the Warriors pulled away with a 17-9 third quarter.  Woodbridge also started the game with a 20-9 first quarter.

Girls Basketball takes non-league victory from Tritons

Woodbridge 50, San Clemente 30:  The Warriors (18-5) trounced the Tritons (11-10) in a non-league game Saturday night at the WHS Gym.

Girls Basketball stifles Timberwolves scoring

Through the first round of league play, Woodbridge has won by over twenty points in each contest.  For the third game in a row, the Warriors denied their opponent from scoring double digits in each quarter of the game.

  

  

Woodbridge scoring was led by junior Samantha Doucette with 14 points followed by seniors Ashley Ward and Sara McCutchan with 12 points each.  Game details.

#6 Girls Basketball dominates #10 Oilers

Woodbridge's stifling defense forced 11 turnovers in the first half and held Huntington Beach to single digits in all four quarters.

  

Woodbridge scoring was led by senior Ashley Ward with 19 points including three 3-point goals.  Freshman Sarah Lipton added 12 points.  Game details.

Woodbridge 66, Foothill 44:  The Warriors (2-0 League, 13-5 Overall) broke open the game in the second quarter against the Knights (1-1, 10-6) Tuesday night at Foothill High School.

Tied at halftime, 15-15, Woodbridge (2-0) experienced a cold-shooting night and foul trouble for Ashley Ward throughout the game.  The Warriors fought hard in the second half, though, to eek out the victory against Irvine (5-1).

  

Ward led all Woodbridge scorers with 12 points.  Sara McCutchan added 11 points.

Girls Basketball season opens Saturday at Tip-Off Classic

Woodbridge 2009-10 Lady Warriors varsity teamThe Lady Warriors begin their 2009-10 campaign at home on Saturday, December 5th when they open the Woodbridge Tip-Off Classic at 7:30pm in the WHS Gym.

  

Three All-Sea View League honorees from Woodbridge's 2008-09 CIF Div. 2 Championship season headline this year's squad as seniors: guard Ashley Ward, guard Erin Beadle, and center/forward Sara McCutchan.
