Warrior Girls 4x400m Relay makes it to the Podium.

TRACK & FIELD BANQUET ON MONDAY, JUNE 11th AT 5:30pm AT WHS

SUMMARY:  A very exciting and nerve-wracking weekend awaited the Warrior track girls in Sacramento at the State Track & Field Championships.  Even though Christine had an easy time qualifying in the 1600 on Friday for Saturday's finals, the relay team of Kyle Wolff, Sarah Toberty, Marjorie Strong and Cassie Stanislaw needed a miracle to advance to the finals following a weak 2nd pass.  In the windy and cold night, the miracle came in the form of a cramped leg muscle for the anchor leg of the James Logan HS relay team that was winning by 25 or so yards.  The Warrior girls qualified 9th (the last spot) by a tenth of a second or so.

Saturday welcomed the best that California had to offer in Track & Field and the athletes put on a tremendous show.  THREE NATIONAL HS RECORDS!  SIX CIF-STATE MEET RECORDS!  AND SEVEN 2007 NATIONAL LEADERS!

The first of the great performances belong to Christine as she won her second consecutive championship in the 1600 with a new State record.  Girls 1600m: Babcock 4:38.85 1600 - #2 Nat'l Fed all-time! She missed the national record by a split second or so.  Christine took the lead at the 700 meter mark of the race and never looked back as she won by 35 or so meters to become the third girl this year to run under 4:40 in the State of California.  Had she been lined up in the inside lanes instead of lane 6 or not have to run the prelims on Friday, she would have set the national Record.  Oh well, next year!!

The meet ended for the Warriors with 4 excited girls sprinting across the infield to get to the podium as they were announced as the official 6th place finishers.  We did not know if we were 6th or 7th until the announcer called us up to the podium as the 6th place team.  Very exciting and very special.

TRACK BANQUET ON JUNE 11th AT 5:30pm AT WHS.  We will meet in the courtyard between the K and J buildings, we will have cake and ice cream starting at 5:30pm and then we will go in the theater for the awards ceremony that will start at 6:00.  We will see you all at the celebration for our successful Track & Field season.
